Milestone 5

For Milestone 5, Livin’ Easy went through a huge transformation.

We went from our first designs that we coded:

After months of coding and debugging, we decided to buy a WordPress theme that had the functions and capabilities we wanted our website to have. Here are some screen shots of our current website:

Milestone 5 – Beauman

For this milestone, I presented a much more simplified idea.  I took the original 1697 printed version of Little Red Riding Hood and turned decisions/events into hypertext links.  These links took the user to a version of the story where the decision/event they clicked on was changed, presenting a different outcome.  Possible changes included the sex LRRH, the setting(time), and the intelligence of the wolf and child.

In class, we talked about what the project could evolve into.  Option 1 was to expand the story by telling the story of characters other than LRRH, such as the grandmother, wolf, huntsman, and mother.  Option 2 was to work with multiple fairy tales to tell modern abstract versions.

CrowdCast, Milestone 5

This milestone review was about where this project was going in terms of launch; by the end of spring break I had planned out here to have already launched and started creating content for the subreddit to spur the life of the community and give it a jump start. Also in this milestone review regards the CSS stylesheet, and my hopes to further my study of how reddit CSS works and making my default subreddit look (eventually) like a “professional” one. Also maps out how I wanted advertise via other subreddits.

Milestone 5 – Forestry Finder

For milestone 5 a prototype is now available for general use. By visiting the site www.benzo32.com anyone can save their own location, with the disclaimer of don’t record blank points or it will break the map. The web app is more accurate when you use a phone because it is more accurate when grabbing latitude and longitude.

Epitaph – milestone 5

http://lesliehood.nmdprojects.net/epitaph/

Epitaph is my capstone and it’s an interactive fiction about two siblings dealing with one’s loss and the other’s grief in the context of thanatosensitivity, which is a subfield of HCI.

Status: Not bad? Like, it’s a rough draft. People can access it and read the story in its current iteration. It does what it needs to do but it’s not done yet.

Issues: None really, maybe just getting the site to look the way I want. Maybe writer’s block?

What’s next:

  • A bibliography
  • Research done by me hosted on a different site/blog
  • Hosting all the associated materials (CUGR items, etc.) online.
  • Cosmetic changes to make the site look the way I want.
  • Adding depth to the story.
